What is the human placenta?

Many people have heard of human placenta but they don't quite understand what it really is. Human placenta is the organ that provides sustenance and purification from within a mother's womb during pregnancy. This powerful organ has the ability to proliferate cells from merely one single ovum to over 60 trillion cells to form a complete foetus. The human placenta belongs to the autonomous organs such as hair and nails, which continue to grow for an impressive amount of time after death. Eight of the amino acids essential to life are found only in the placenta.
